How to get clients for freelancing when you are just starting out?
Steps
- You need a skill that you are good at.
- You need to have worked on it.
- If you have your portfolio, it will be easier for you to get clients.
- Market yourself everywhere.
- Clients will reach out to you by replying to your content.
A Good Skill
why would anyone pay you? if you have a good skill then and only then someone will be willing to pay you for your services.
You can be good at anything like content writing, email writing, logo designing, graphic designing, video editing, SEO, coding websites and apps, resume building, excel maintaining work, and many more.
Let's take an example. you are good at content writing, so that means you can write for others as well and they will pay you for your good content.
In the beginning, when you will be reaching out to everyone, you can write at low cost or for free so you can gather some of the work/projects, and do good work for them.
Once you build your portfolio, you start marketing yourself and you will start getting Inbound leads for your services.
A good skill can become one of your best skills, and it can pay you in high numbers. It will take time and practice to reach high numbers.
Portfolio/ Your Previous Work
If you have previously worked for any client then it will be less difficult to get another client, but what if you have not?
As I mentioned in the above paragraph, you can write for free at the beginning or very low cost and gather some of the work/projects. Or you can choose an industry that interests you and choose a topic and start writing about it, and build some good pieces of content that you can show to your potential clients.
Market Yourself Everywhere
Prepare some good content and post online with your name and contact details and share it on all the social media and everywhere possible.
You can individually message your friends, relatives, colleagues about your content and let them know if anyone needs it, you can write it for them for affordable prices.
You can also contact your seniors in your college/school, they can also help you in getting your first client.
You can also advertise yourself online via paid marketing, but that's a different topic we can discuss in future blogs.
There are many more ways you can reach out to people, you can directly message people on social media, DM them, tell your friends to post your content on their stories, and many more.
So share your content everywhere possible, and don't be shy of it.
Clients Will Reach Out To You
Once you have prepared good content, presented it well to all your social media friends and everywhere, you will start getting responses.
In the beginning, it will take time, if you are lucky you will get a quick response from someone who can be your client, but sometimes it can take a good amount of time.
Keep sharing your content, try new ways to share it online, be creative in sharing it, and you will get the response, and eventually, you will find clients.
There are many things to take care of here, about communicating with clients, how to set your prices, negotiating your prices, and many more things. We will cover that in future blogs.
